Shitec Economy 486SX

This is one of my favorite system: A 80486SX at 25 MHz. With cache disabled, I can easily play games like Wing Commander. The system has a 5.25" 1.2 MB floppy disk (drive B - added by me), a 1.44 MB 3.5" disk drive and a Sound Blaster Pro 2.0. The hard disk is not original and was added by me. Since I run MSDOS6.22 on it, the full capacity of the drive is not used but I don't mind.

This is one of my oldest gaming PCs and I love it. It's all round, easy to use and can run a wide variety of games. I have Windows for Workgroups 3.11 installed and one day I'd like to add a NIC as well - but that's in the future. I mainly play classic Sierra / LucasArts games on this PC.

As you can see on the images, there is room to expand the RAM - I still have 4 open SIM sockets. However, 16MB is already quite large for a system of this era so I never upgraded the RAM - there's just no need. I can also add external cache, but haven't done that for the same reason. I never use this machine for games that require a lot of horsepower (I have other machines for that), but to slow down for games like Wing Commander II. Because of that, I see no value in adding external cache - speeding up is something I'm not looking for right now.

The system was probably a OEM, locally rebranded system. I found an ad in one of the Dutch newspapers (see "More Info" on the right panel) promoting it for 2199 guilders (around € 2.223,64 in 2026).
